< Rootsnd Carbon – We Find Your Local Carbon Farmer

We are using local actions to achieve global decarbonization goals

At Roots and Carbon, we're not just another carbon removal company operating from a distance but a local company with local knowledge on a mission to transform the journey toward a regenerative economy and redefine how emissions are managed.

We achieve this by helping you create dependable, nature-based carbon removal portfolios and connecting you to our local carbon farmers.

Through using the power of industrial hemp, we can meet the (UN SDG ) 17 sustainable development goal that benefits our local African carbon farmers, who are mostly Small-scale farmers without access to the voluntary carbon market and its financial turnover, which is needed to go regenerative

more than 90% of those living in extreme poverty depend on forests for their livelihoods, including food and firewood.

Approximately 63% of Africa's land surface is degraded, which amounts to over 4 billion hectares. with 55% of that being at very high risk of further degradation.

Africa is one of the most polluted areas on Earth due to extensive oil extraction and spills

The environmental degradation has had severe consequences on the local ecosystems and communities, affecting agriculture, fishing, and overall health.

Working with local farmers to Re-carbonise and restore degraded land is crucial for improving food security, protecting biodiversity, and building resilient communities.

Some success STORIES

Carbon farmers and Clients share some of their experiences with Roots and Carbon.

Moses

Located in East Legon Accra-Ghana, Moses is a Hemp farmer transforming 2.5 hectares of degraded land into agroforestry and reforestation. Teaming up with Rootsandcarbon, Moses is going through the measurement and certification processes needed to receive the carbon credits that are ready to sell.

Access

Access is a building company with an important focus on sustainability. Rootsandcarbon built a portfolio and, among others, connected Access to our carbon farmer Moses, from whom they bought carbon credits. By Growing Hemp, carbon is stored in the soil. The Hemp tree is then used for building materials such as Hempcrete and Biomass carbon reducing and possibly removing Scope 3 emissions.

Kubi Mine FARMERS

Located 180 kilometers northwest of Accra in the Central Region is the abandoned Kubi Gold Mine. Rootsandcarbon works with the Kubi mine Hemp farmers. These farmers has been planting hemp plants around the abandoned mine since 2023. To help improve water pollution, soil degradation, and deforestation, transforming the forest reserves to a sustainable ecosystem.

Asante

By partnering with Rootsandcarbon, Asante embarked on a journey towards circularity and carbon neutrality. By purchasing carbon credits from the local Kubi mine farmers. The farmers were able to convert 52 Square kilometers in Hemp forests, storing carbon and increasing biodiversity. With the purchased credits Asante Gold Corporation is able to remove a part of their Scope 3 emission.
